Linda Matthews

Linda is a member of Wilps Xsto’om Hloxs of the Gisgaast clan in Gitsegukla.  Her name is Gispa sto’othl. She is an active feast participant; born and raised in the Hazelton area. She married Dan Matthews in 1980 and had two wonderful children named Rob and Louden.

One of Linda's favourite childhood memories is when her mom would burn dried fish and eat cold potatoes and raw onions.  Linda's mom would spread newspaper over the whole table and her Granny Jessie would tear the hot dried fish into pieces with her bare hands, then they would finish off with tea and jarred huckleberries for dessert.  Eating, laughing, and talking together with her family made Linda feel so warm and full of love.

Linda started working with GCFSS in October 2005 as the Executive Assistant. Later she became the Office Administrator. Recently, she became the Operations Manager/Board Liaison and looks forward to all the important work with the Board and staff. Linda enjoys her work with GCFSS, especially the connection with the Wii Axho’osxwit (Elders) and the Clan Care Circles. Linda enjoys hearing their stories about the Gitxsan way of looking after our own Majagalee.  Even though Linda already understood a lot of the language, it was through interaction with the Wii Axho’osxwit that Linda was inspired to start learning to speak Gitxsan.
