Laverne Williams

Laverne’s Gitxsan name is Wii laxh dib lixh, which means the hump on a grizzly bear’s neck. She is a member of the Frog clan and comes from the wilp of Maos. She feels blessed by her big family and cherishes every moment they can spend together. Some of her happiest moments include the day she married her husband Brian and when they had their two daughters.

Laverne’s favourite place is her kitchen. While she cooks and washes dishes, she stares out the window and admires the beauty of the mountain. She says the mountain is breathtaking when it is surrounded by fog, mist or the clouds, or when the moon is visible.

Laverne loves working with families and helping in any way that she can. She considers community as a place where people can feel secure and know their roots. In the future, Laverne hopes to upgrade her social work diploma to a Bachelor’s degree in social work.
