Brian Williams

My Gitxsan name is Gwiiyeehl, I am a Fireweed chief of the Gitxsan.  My English name is Brian Williams, married to Laverne for 32 years and have two daughters, Tara and Hilary. My oldest daughter Tara has a daughter Ariel and Hilary has a son, Miller. I reside in the community of Kispiox for all of my life.

My career thus far includes Fisheries Manager, Health Director, Band Manager, and Chairman of various boards of directors.  I have also served as a Kispiox Band Councilor, Band Chief Councilor. Currently I am a director on the First Nations Forestry Board of Directors (10 years), President of Gitxsan Forest Enterprises Incorporated (1 year) am the Band Manager for the Kispiox Band Council for (1year).  I have served first nations people for my entire career and will continue to do so for as long as I can.

My primary interests are to further our first nations people in the agencies who deliver services to our people. First and foremost is the safety and health of our children who are the ones who will be taking over our jobs when we leave or retire. Striving for our people has been my vision for life.
